Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae
Heteronympha merope
This female Common Brown looked freshly emerged from the pupa. She was stunningly beautiful with bright sharp colours, undamaged wings and an iridescent sheen.
We observed many females along our walk, but males, it now being early March, were virtually absent. This butterfly's chances of finding a mate and laying viable eggs are reducing.
